We’ve all had one. A car that has come into the lives of each and every one of us. In one way or another, there was a moment when a Fiat Panda has affected our existence. Mum had one, it was our first car, it took us on trips with friends, the neighbour had one, the neighbourhood pizzaiolo drove one, a boyfriend used to pick us up at home in one. We’d find it at the seaside and in the mountains, in provincial towns and big cities, in the barren countryside and in glamorous locations, on duty on airport runways and in the colours of the police force. In its “first generation” produced from 1980 to 2003, the Panda embraced society as a whole, from the less affluent to the wealthiest motorists, without distinction of age or social position.
This monograph traces the technical and stylistic evolution of the iconic car over the course of more than 20 years, without neglecting the countless special versions that, for the Panda, have represented a sort of “history within the history”. As always, the book also features a brief but exhaustive guide to maintenance and restoration.
